Gainesville, Fla. -- Life South is honoring National Blood Donor month by highlighting the need for donations.
National blood donor month was established in 1970 and brings attention to the need for blood donations.
During the month of January -- Life South wants to celebrate blood donors, while encouraging first time donors to give.
Life South communications and outreach coordinator Brite Whitaker said blood donations are critical.
"It is something that we need people to do every day in this country. Every two seconds someone needs blood. Blood that is donated and is on the shelves and available when an accident happens is the blood that helps those patients,” Whitaker said.
Life South said right now they are especially in need of Type O blood.
