Alachua County law enforcement agencies honor school crossing guards
Gainesville, Fla. —
On crossing guard appreciation day local law enforcement showed their support for school crossing guards with an appreciation luncheon.
Crossing guards from Alachua, Gainesville and High Springs were all honored for their hard work and dedication to keeping children safe.
Trevor Elliot has been a school crossing guard for 15 years and he said he looks forward to the event every year.
Elliot said he loves interacting with the kids and the role he plays in keeping them safe.
" I like being a crossing guard because of the interaction with the kids. I love to know that I'm contributing to their safety," Elliott said.
Governor Rick Scott also issued a proclamation of appreciation today, recognizing crossing guards for the work they do.
