
Lake City — Thursday morning, Lake City police say they found a man outside an apartment shot four times. This was at the Windsong Apartments around 12:47 AM.
They say the apartment's door had seven bullet holes, and all the shots were fired from inside the apartment.
Police say the victim worked at the Windsong Apartments in maintenance. The employee had been called to help a resident with a key broken in the apartment door, but the employee went to the wrong apartment door.
The employee started to remove the lock from outside the door, but inside residents woke up thinking someone was trying to break in, police said.
Police say six people, including kids, live in the apartment. One of the residents heard and saw the lock being tampered with and fired seven shots through the door.
Police say the maintenance person declined to press charges, and the State Attorney's Office will review the case.
The maintenance person was taken to the hospital, and Police say they have since been released and are expected to make a full recovery.
