Deputies: Hawthorne woman wounded after boyfriend fires gun
Alachua County Sheriff's deputies say a man wounded his girlfriend when he fired multiple shots Saturday.
Investigators charged 28-year-old Teddie McDowell with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Deputies say they responded to Southeast Hawthorne Road in Hawthorne around 9 p.m. Deputies say they found a woman wounded by bullet fragments.
A witness told deputies the victim tried to prevent McDowell from leaving the home because he was drunk. That's when they say he retrieved a lever-action 30/30 rifle and fired it into the ground. They say he fired it a second time, striking a lock on a gate and injuring his girlfriend.
According to the witness, McDowell retrieved a lever action 30/30 rifle. He then discharged the firearm one time into the ground and then a second time, this time striking a lock on the residence's gate.
Deputies say that the injuries were not intentional.
McDowell is out of jail after posting bond.
