A Gainesville man was found guilty Wednesday in connection with a May 2018 shooting at the Kava Lounge.

The State Attorney's Office says 31-year-old Gregory Jones, Jr. was found guilty of carrying a concealed firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after a jury deliberated for about two hours.

The shooting happened about 3 a.m. on May 12th at the Kava Lounge at 1007 W. University Ave.

Authorities say Jones and 27-year-old Christopher T. Alexander were involved in an argument when shots were fired. Authorities say Jones shot Alexander but couldn't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he didn't act in self-defense since Alexander also had a gun.

A state attorney spokesman said they were able to prove Jones had a gun using video evidence. Jones will be sentenced in the next 30 days.

Alexander was arrested in August and in December pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was sentenced to serve a minimum of three years in prison.
