Shooting leads GPD to find stolen gun linked to carjacking
Gainesville police are investigating a shooting they believe could be linked to a robbery and attempted carjacking from September.
On Tuesday morning officers responded to reports of a shooting in the the 1600 NE 8th Ave area. Two victims were in a car and honked their horn at a man who was standing in the road. The man grabbed his waistband as if to reach for a gun, so the victims fled the area.
Later that day when the victims returned to the area the same man fired two gunshots at their vehicle.
Police say the suspect then got in to a silver Dodge Challenger and fled the area.
Police found a vehicle matching the description in the Lincoln Estates neighborhood and a search of the vehicle found a loaded 9mm handgun. A records check revealed the handgun was stolen on September 9 during a robbery and attempted carjacking at Cabana Beach apartments.
During that robbery, two men approached a woman and pointed guns at her, dragging her from the vehicle by her hair and hitting her several times causing lacerations and bruising.
The suspects ran, taking a gun from the car with them. The investigation is on going.
