Van crosses Newberry Road, strikes Gainesville bank
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WGFL) —
A woman was taken to the hospital with possible life-threatening injuries Friday morning after her van crashed into a Newberry Road bank.
Gainesville Police say the woman in her 40s appears to have been incapacitated by a medical event while driving eastbound on West Newberry Road about 9 a.m.. Officer Ben Tobias says an off-duty paramedic was following the van when it began driving erratically, crossed all three westbound lanes, ran into mailboxes on the sidewalk and then traveled another 100 yards when it struck the Suntrust Bank at 5080 W. Newberry Road.
Tobias said the crash caused significant damage to the vehicle and the exterior of the bank. Gainesville Fire-Rescue responded to the crash and provided advanced life support to the patient.
