Wanted Wednesday: Gainesville man accused of stealing from The Village residents
A Gainesville man is on the run after authorities say he helped steal money from residents at the Village of Gainesville.
Investigators said 48-year-old Lyndon Boykins has been cashing checks stolen from a pair of clients.
Deputies have already arrested Boykins' former co-worker Amanda Thompson.
They said Thompson was a caregiver for the victims when she stole checks from their home.
"They would take those checks, make them out to themselves and then employ someone and pay them with narcotics to go and cash those checks," Art Forgey with the Alachua County Sheriffs Office said.
Police said over time they accumulated $16,000 worth of fraudulent checks and believe Boykins claimed 10% of that.
Boykins is wanted on fraud and grand theft charges.
"This is a financial crime that they are preying on our elderly," Forgety said. "If they're doing it to our elderly what other elderly people have not found out about it yet and what is he doing while he's out there free," he said.
Lyndon Boykins is 48 years old 6'00" and 160 pounds if you see him or have any information police ask you to call Crime Stoppers at 352-372-STOP.
