Wanted Wednesdays: Gainesville man accused of helping clean up a murder

The Gainesville Police Department is looking for a man who has avoided capture for more than a year--and they need the public's help to find him.

Daniel Winter has been dodging police since July 2016.

“We have been looking for Winter for over a year and a half and he has eluded capture every single time,” says Ofc. Ben Tobias the Gainesville Police Department spokesman.

Winter's charged with accessory to murder after the fact.

Police say winter helped Ishmael Daniels hide the gun Daniel used to kill 29-year-old Rashay Garrison.

“Winter actually drove Daniels to Orlando to exchange the rental car that we believe was used in the shooting,” says Ofc. Tobias. “He additionally helped clean the car with bleach—and we believe he went to the location with the murder weapon, and helped him re-bury that weapon.”

Police say the motive was over a rap video.

“We have reason to believe this had all started over a rap video,” says Ofc.Tobias. “Garrison posted and produced a video that other people in the area consider it to be a dis to them.”

With Winter on the run, police say his actions can be unpredictable.

“When you have someone that assists with such a level of crime like this, we don’t know what he’s capable of,” says Ofc. Tobias. “If he’s helped someone cover up one murder, who knows what he’s capable of.”

Police believe he may be in the Orlando or Atlanta area, but also has strong family ties to Gainesville.
