A tip is what first led officers to the suspect. Further investigation, and what McManus said was "very, very good evidence," led officers to arrest 22-year-old Eric Treviño Wednesday afternoon at the 3200 block of Cupples Road.
"I made a promise to Mrs. Blancas when this shooting first happened that we would make an arrest in this case and today we kept our promise," Chief William McManus said.
Treviño had five outstanding felony warrants and two outstanding misdemeanor warrants.
“I can’t even imagine why someone would want to do this to us, let alone kill my baby boy," Rene Blancas, Sr. previously said.

Rene's mother told police her son was in the backseat next to his 11-month-old sister when the Trevino's vehicle drove by slowly and completed a u-turn. The driver pulled in behind them and fired a single shot, striking the backseat and hitting Rene in the back of the head according to an arrest affidavit.
Surveillance video revealed the suspect vehicle fleeing south on Bynum Avenue. A news tip detailed the the direction of flight and direction of the suspects' vehicles, leading to Trevino's arrest.
The car involved in the drive-by belong to Trevino's parents. It was returned to the dealership five days after the shooting.
Police tracked it down and checked it for evidence.
