Wanted Wednesday: Alachua County man wanted for grand theft
For the last four years Jeffery Lovejoy has avoided doing time on a grand theft charge.
Alachua County deputies say in 2014 Lovejoy worked for an aluminum company in Ocala that was contracted to build a pool enclosure for a customer.
Lovejoy showed up to the job, but instead of doing the work deputies say he stole the materials needed for the enclosure and never came back.
" He expected to go outside and have an enclosure over his pool, however this unscrupulous employee had other ideas in mind," Alachua County Sheriff's Office spokesman Art Forgey said.
Deputies said Lovejoy sold the materials as scrap metal to a recycler. After being charged with a third degree felony deputies say Lovejoy failed to appear to multiple court dates.
" The defendant never completed his court time and court sanctions and so therefore the warrant was issued and at this time we've not been able to locate him," Forgey said.
Deputies said Lovejoy could possible try the same shady scheme again posing a danger to future employers and customers.
" If he has done it once there's probably nothing to prohibit him from doing it again," Forgey said.
Jeffery Lovejoy is 42 years old, 6 feet tall and weighs 200 pounds.
